Time passes and the success of the Volkswagen T-Roc is
undeniable! The German SUV is selling well (more than 1 million T-Roc sold
worldwide), neither too big nor too compact, it meets the demand of customers looking
for an SUV with a classic look, built with the serious Volkswagen.
After 5 years of service, Volkswagen has decided to give
it a little facelift, just to always remain in the top sales category.
Trendier Look
Still based on the Golf platform, the T-Roc adopts a more
aggressive look with new diamond-shaped front bumpers, strongly inspired by the
"edgy" T-Roc R model. We find the new light strip connecting the 2
headlights front, the T-Roc also adopts the new Matrix LED lighting, adaptive
lighting, scrolling indicators, and a new rear bumper with a sportier look.
Although it only represents a very small percentage of
sales, the T-Roc convertible (and its soft top that opens in 9 seconds) is also
getting a makeover. It must be said that it alone represents an ultra-rare
species: the convertible SUV! To reinforce the rigidity of the body, it still
weighs 183 kg more than the normal T-Roc!!
Techno Interior!
Inside, the restyling is more important than expected.
The central digital screen is positioned higher with a nice size of 9.2 inches.
There is no longer any needle in the T-Rocs. From now on, all T-Rocs are
equipped with the Digital Cockpit, just a no-brainer, it's so practical and
efficient.
The steering wheel becomes capacitive, and the plastics
gain in perceived quality compared to the first generation, with the appearance
of many foamed plastics. We find the new air conditioning controls already seen
on the Polo and the Tiago.
In terms of technology and driving aids, this T-Roc is at
the top: Travel assist, Park assist, We connect plus, App connect, We upgrade
etc… the list is as long as your arm! Note that as an option, you can opt for a
particularly effective controlled suspension.
The trunk keeps a good capacity for the category with 445
litres of loading.
Where Is The Hybridization?
You don't change a winning team: Volkswagen stays with
its well-known engines. The 110 hp 1.0 TSI 3-cylinder petrol, the 150 hp
4-cylinder TSI with cylinder deactivation and the 2.0 TDI 150 and 115 Diesel
and its freewheel system. At the top of the range, the T-Roc R and its 300 hp 4
motion are more there for the image than to inflate the sales figures.
Note that in this range, the T-Roc is almost the only
manufacturer to offer 4-wheel drive on its SUV.
And yes, we will have to wait for the next generation of
T-Roc to have Hybrid or Micro-Hybrid engines!
3 trim levels are available: Life, Style and R-Line. So
yes, the prices are rather at the top of the category, but VW has made great
efforts in terms of standard equipment: even the basic Life version is very
well equipped without having to dip into the catalogue of options, such as this
was too often the case before at Volkswagen.
With its premium look, the seriousness of its Volkswagen
construction makes it a particularly homogeneous copy of this new generation.
This T-Roc is good everywhere, we can't blame it, except perhaps its lack of
hybrid motorization, it is only on this ground that its competitors will attack
it because, for the rest, it fears no one!
